1 DAY SHIMBA HILLS NATIONAL RESERVE. (LUNCH AT SHIMBA RAINFOREST LODGE)

Depending on hotel location, You will be picked up from your coast hotel at
around 6am depending on location. You will drive to Shimba Hills Park.
You will have a game drive, walk to Sheldricks water falls, have lunch at
Shimba Hills Lodge and an optional walk to the bush around the lodge.
Later you will be transferred back to your hotel in the evening.
OVERVIEW “Paradise of the Sable antelope”
As one of the largest coastal forests in East Africa, this reserve is rich in flora and fauna and hosts the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, elephant shrew, bushy tailed mongoose and other small mammals like fruit bats. The forest is an important bird area and is endowed with forest birdlife while the grasslands hold localized species such as red-necked-Spur fowl, Croaking Cisticola and Zanzibar Red Bishop. The scenic Sheldrick Falls and the dense Mwaluganje Forest are also found here along with four campsites.
ITINERARY
You will be picked from your hotel early in the morning at 07:00 / 0730hrs then be driven for about forty-five minutes to reach this cool and lush Shimba Hills National Reserve. Start searching for the animals including elephant, giraffe, buffalo, warthog, the rare Sable antelope that are only found here in the whole of East Africa and maybe the leopard. All these plus colourful birds are seen in a green Rainforest of Shimba hills.
Thereafter you will tour the Sheldrick Falls at the slopes of the hills before lunchtime. Watch water splashing a top a cliff 30 metres high and the water forms a natural pool causing casual sportswear are preferable.
It is very important to put into consideration before disembarking from the vehicle to go down the hill 45 minutes gentle walk that this is a fitness exercise and it’s recommended for the physically fit people.
Lunch will be at the Shimba Rainforest lodge to be served in a restaurant-overlooking waterhole. The lodge is the only tree hotel at the coast and it has a stunning view from its base of rainforest.
After lunch you have another game drive reverting to your place at around 17:00. - I hope this is okay for you - End of the excursion.
