Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara – Great Rift Valley and Afternoon Game Drive

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi. The driver-guide will collect guests from selected Nairobi hotels or an agreed meeting point before beginning the journey towards the Masai Mara National Reserve.

Travel through Kenya’s scenic Great Rift Valley, with a brief stop at a viewpoint when time and weather conditions permit. Continue through Narok and the surrounding Maasai countryside before arriving at the camp in time for lunch or an early afternoon meal.

After check-in and a short rest, depart for your first shared game drive in a safari-equipped 4×4 Land Cruiser. The Masai Mara supports an exceptional variety of wildlife throughout the year. Depending on the location of the animals, you may see:

• Lions resting in the grasslands or preparing for an evening hunt
• African elephants moving between feeding and watering areas
• Giraffes browsing among acacia trees
• Buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, impala, gazelle and topi
• Cheetahs scanning the open plains for prey

Leopards and black rhinos are present in the Masai Mara but are more difficult to locate. Wildlife sightings remain natural and cannot be guaranteed.

Day 2: Full-Day Masai Mara Wildlife Safari

After an early breakfast, depart with a picnic lunch for a full day of wildlife viewing in the Masai Mara National Reserve. Travelling in a shared 4×4 Land Cruiser provides better access to wildlife-viewing areas, particularly when road conditions are wet or uneven.

Your driver-guide will follow current wildlife reports and use knowledge of the reserve to select suitable game-viewing areas. The route may include open savannah, riverine woodland, seasonal streams, rocky areas and locations near the Mara and Talek rivers.

The Masai Mara forms part of the greater Mara–Serengeti ecosystem and supports resident wildlife throughout the year. Possible sightings include:

• Lions, including prides with cubs when present
• Cheetahs hunting on the open plains
• Leopards resting in trees or moving through riverine woodland
• Elephants, buffalo and giraffes
• Wildebeest, zebra, eland, topi, hartebeest and gazelles
• Hippos and Nile crocodiles along rivers and pools
• Spotted hyenas, black-backed jackals and bat-eared foxes
• Secretary birds, vultures, eagles, ostriches and other savannah birds

A picnic lunch will be served at a designated location within the reserve. Game viewing continues during the afternoon before returning to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Masai Mara to Nairobi

Enjoy breakfast at the camp before checking out and beginning the return journey to Nairobi. Depending on the confirmed park-entry arrangement, departure time and applicable fees, an additional early morning game drive may be available at an extra cost. It should not be presented as included unless confirmed in the booking.

Travel back through Narok and the Great Rift Valley, with comfort stops along the way. Arrival in Nairobi is normally expected during the late afternoon or early evening, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Guests will be dropped off at the agreed Nairobi meeting point or selected hotel. Separate airport transfers must be confirmed in advance and may attract an additional charge.

Best Time to Visit the Masai Mara

The Masai Mara is a year-round wildlife destination. Lions, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, cheetahs, hippos, zebras and many antelope species live in the ecosystem throughout the year. The experience changes with rainfall, vegetation, animal movements and visitor numbers.

January to March – Dry Conditions and Big-Cat Viewing

These months often provide warm, relatively dry conditions and shorter grass in many areas. Wildlife gathers near permanent water sources, and visibility can be good for lions, cheetahs, elephants and other resident animals.

April to June – Green Season

Seasonal rains transform the reserve into a green landscape. This period can offer fewer vehicles, dramatic skies, excellent birdlife and attractive photography. Some roads may become muddy, which makes a 4×4 Land Cruiser particularly valuable.

July to October – Great Migration Season

Large herds of wildebeest and zebra may enter the Masai Mara from the Serengeti during this period. River crossings can occur when conditions and herd movements are suitable, but their timing and location are controlled by nature and cannot be guaranteed.

This is the busiest and most expensive safari season. Accommodation demand is high, and early booking is strongly recommended.

November and December – Short Rains and Resident Wildlife

The short rains can refresh the plains and attract migratory birds. Resident wildlife remains present, while visitor numbers may be lower than during the main migration months, except over Christmas and New Year.

Masai Mara Park Entrance Fees

Masai Mara National Reserve entrance fees are not included in the safari
price and must be paid separately. The applicable fee depends on the guest’s
age, travel dates and the official rates in effect at the time of travel.

Based on the currently published fee schedule:

• January to June: USD 100 per adult, per day
• July to December: USD 200 per adult, per day
• Children aged 9–17 years: USD 50 per child, per day
• Children aged 8 years and below: Free entry

This safari normally requires payment for two park-entry days.
