Detailed Itinerary
1. Pickup from Your South East Coast Hotel
Meet your guide at the confirmed hotel pickup point and begin your excursion by road. Your guide will introduce the day’s programme and explain the arrangements for the spice farm visit and forest walk.
The departure time depends on your hotel location and the confirmed programme. The order of the two visits may be adjusted to suit local operating arrangements.
2. Guided Spice Farm Visit
Arrive at the spice farm selected for your excursion and follow your guide through its growing areas. Learn how spices and tropical plants are cultivated, harvested and used in Zanzibar’s cooking and everyday life.
Depending on the farm and season, your guide may introduce plants such as cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg and pepper. Discover how familiar kitchen spices look before processing, and explore their different aromas where handling or sampling is permitted.
The visit also provides an opportunity to learn about Zanzibar’s spice-growing heritage and the work involved in producing these crops. The specific plants encountered depend on the selected farm and seasonal availability.
3. Optional Farm Purchases and Seasonal Experiences
Where available, you may have an opportunity to purchase packaged spices or other farm products. Shopping is optional, and purchases are payable separately.
Fruit tasting, spice sampling and demonstrations are included only where stated in your booking confirmation. Please advise Cruzeiro Safaris of any food allergies before participating in a confirmed tasting activity.
4. Road Transfer to Jozani Forest
Continue by road to Jozani Forest within Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park. On arrival, receive an introduction to the visitor route, wildlife observation rules and the protected forest environment.
5. Guided Forest Walk and Wildlife Observation
Follow the designated trails with your guide while learning about the forest’s vegetation and conservation. Look for Zanzibar red colobus monkeys and observe any animals encountered from a respectful distance.
Your guide will help identify wildlife seen along the route and explain its behaviour and habitat. Sightings depend on natural animal movements and cannot be guaranteed. Do not feed, touch or approach the monkeys; follow the guide’s instructions throughout the walk.
6. Mangrove Walk Where Included
Where included in your confirmed programme and open on the day, visit the mangrove boardwalk for an introduction to this coastal ecosystem. Learn about the role of mangrove roots and the connection between the forest and surrounding coastal environment.
Remain on the designated route and follow your guide’s instructions. The exact walking programme depends on site access and local conditions.
