Detailed Itinerary
1. Pickup from Your North East Hotel
Meet your driver at the hotel pickup point specified in your booking confirmation. Travel by road from Zanzibar’s North East coast to the spice farm selected for your excursion.
Your guide will introduce the programme and explain what to expect during the farm walk. The departure time and journey duration depend on your hotel location, traffic and the confirmed farm arrangements.
2. Welcome and Guided Spice Farm Walk
On arrival, begin a guided walk through the farm’s growing areas. Discover how tropical plants are cultivated and how different plant parts, including bark, roots, seeds and fruits, become familiar ingredients.
Follow the designated visitor paths while your guide explains the crops encountered and the work involved in maintaining and harvesting them.
3. Discover the Aromas and Textures of Spices
Explore the spices available during your visit through their appearance, scent and texture. Depending on the farm and season, your guide may introduce cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper and other locally grown varieties.
Touch, smell and taste suitable samples offered by your guide. Learn to recognise spices before processing and discover how they are used in local dishes and everyday cooking. Only handle or taste plants when invited to do so.
4. Learn About Harvesting and Preparation
Continue the walk with explanations of how selected spices are harvested, dried and prepared for use. Your guide will connect the plants you see with Zanzibar’s spice-growing heritage and the products commonly found in kitchens and markets.
Specific plants and any demonstrations depend on the selected farm, season and activities available on the day.
5. Included Tropical Fruit Tasting
Enjoy a tropical fruit tasting included in your excursion. Your guide will introduce the selection served and explain how the fruits are grown or enjoyed locally.
The fruit selection varies according to seasonal availability. Please advise Cruzeiro Safaris of food allergies or dietary requirements before booking and remind your guide before tasting.
6. Optional Farm Shopping
Where a sales area is available, take the opportunity to browse packaged spices and other farm products. Ask your guide about their ingredients and suggested culinary uses.
Purchases are optional and payable separately. Lunch and drinks are not included. If you would like a meal stop considered in the programme, request it when enquiring so availability and any additional cost can be confirmed.
